Our Philosophy

Portfolio management and wealth management

What has to be intended with the word “investor”?

On our point of view, clearly inherited from B. Graham’s works, an investment operation is one which, through analysis, promises both safety of principal and an adequate return. Any otherwise operation has to be called speculation.

However, reading the financial newspapers, you can get confused at least. Journalists and speakers define investor anyone who deals with assets, regardless what she buys (or sells), for what purpose and at whatever price.

Our conservative approach can’t agree with the above position. We find ironical indeed that a purchase of stocks, bonds or real assets is considered (by the public) gamble when available at a very attractive basis add, conversely, the simple fact that they had advanced in prices so much transforms them into investment.

The distinction between investment and speculation is always kept in in our operation.

Speculation is neither illegal, nor immoral. Rather, in most of the cases, it is necessary and unavoidable, for it creates situations of profit and loss. It is always fascinating and it might be even funny, but definitely not our business.

At SmArtPistis instead, after careful examination of the desires and needs of our Client, we will jointly decide if the approach should be:

a) defensive, if the Client is interested chiefly to protect his principle and to be reasonably rewarded from bother.

a) enterprising, to gain results above-average. In this specific case, and to enjoy satisfactory results, the investor will accept policies which are not only sound and promising, but also unpopular in the Street.
